WG Uni
The Wikigender University programme was launched in 2010 to enrich the platform with new high-quality articles on gender and development issues. Initially the programme was started with Paris-based universities, engaging students in adding articles, doing outreach and benefitting from the networking opportunities provided by Wikigender. Given its success, Wikigender University is in the process of expanding the current programme to selected universities, in both developed and developing countries, to enhance the range of perspectives and information that is available on Wikigender.

With the launch of the platform in French in 2015, we are also looking to collaborate with francophone universities.

Objectives

Wikigender University aims to:

  • Actively engage students in the development of the platform.
  • Bring together a range of universities to foster networking possibilities among students and academics.
  • Enhance opportunities for capacity-building in gender research, information-sharing, social networking, IT and editorial skills.
  • Challenge perceptions and help promote gender equality and women’s empowerment.

How to get involved?

You can become involved with Wikigender University in several ways, from bringing Wikigender editing workshop into one of your gender-related courses at the university, to starting a group project on a specific theme with Wikigender, and more. In return, Wikigender University can help increase the visibility of your academic courses and help your students learn about gender issues, connect with others working in this field and develop links between universities and research institutes.

If you are interested in becoming part of the Wikigender University project, or if you would like to know more, please email us at: DEV.Gender@oecd.org. We are open to your suggestions and ideas!

Student’s comments on the Programme

“Wikigender is an interactive platform that raises awareness for gender equality and its development through analytical articles.
My focus was on Eastern European countries, but through the teamwork with other multicultural students I was able to enlarge my horizon on global progress. It was an effective and fun learning process whereby we were all keen to share our knowledge with Wikigender’s increasing audience”

Evgeniya Zabolotnyaya (AUP)

“Undoubtedly the highlight of Wikigender University was the opportunity to work alongside OECD professionals in fields of gender and development”

Eilean Ellison (AUP)

“Writing for the Wikigender website was fulfilling in that I was able to explore a worldwide range of topics concerning women and gender. The Gender department team was very supportive and enthusiastic by explaining the site, the Social Institutions and Gender Index, how to write effectively… Besides, we got the chance to attend meetings and screenings at the OECD, which represented a great opportunity for the most curious among us.”

Charlotte Lazare (Sciences Po)
