Wikigender is a global online collaborative platform linking policymakers, civil society and experts from both developed and developing countries to find solutions to advance gender equality. It provides a centralised space for knowledge exchange on key emerging issues, with a strong focus on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and in particular on SDG 5. Both English, French and Spanish speakers worldwide can discuss current issues, relevant research and emerging trends on gender equality.

Wikigender places the spotlight on gender data and statistics as a complement to the Gender, Institutions and Development Database (GID-DB) and the Social Institutions and Gender Index (SIGI), both developed by the OECD Development Centre.

Wikigender is also:

  • An online community
  • An inclusive platform
  • An informative and participatory platform
  • Dedicated to quality

An online community

Who is the community?

  • Gender equality experts
  • Gender and development practitioners
  • Policymakers
  • Students
  • Anyone passionate about gender equality issues

An inclusive platform

Wikigender aims to include as many new voices as possible in the discussion surrounding gender equality issues. The platform is also available in Spanish and French.

Wikigender is the first online sharing platform to offer the Francophone community a centralised hub of information on gender and development. Topics covered in articles and online discussions are tailored to the Francophone gender and development community with a special focus on Africa. AFD is a key partner in the upkeep and improvement of the French Wikigender.

An informative and participatory platform

Wikigender facilitates communication within the Wikigender community through an intuitive interface with easy-to-find information. The OECD Development Centre authors most of the featured content but some sections are open to contributions from Wikigender community members.

Key information on gender statistics
