Unfinished Gender equality and women’s rights are essential to achieving the unfinished business of the "Millennium and accelerating development progress beyond 2015. "Gender matters in its own right as a driver of growth and as a prerequisite for improved development outcomes. Yet, there is no single country in the world where women have achieved full equality with men. That in itself should be enough to underscore the need to keep a strong focus on gender equality and women’s rights in the post-2015 development agenda by:
<ul>
<li>Retaining a standalone goal on gender equality and women’s empowerment; and</li>
<li>Integrating gender-specific targets and indicators into all other relevant development goals.</li>
</ul>
<h2 id="w_which-policy-areas">Which policy areas?</h2>
Increased investments in the following five policy areas will have catalytic effects on the lives of women and girls, and help to achieve gender equality, women’s empowerment and development objectives well beyond 2015.
<ol>
<li>Keep girls in school to complete a quality secondary education</li>
<li>Improve reproductive health, including access to family planning</li>
<li>Increase women’s control over and ownership of assets</li>
<li>Support women’s leadership and influence</li>
<li>Stop violence against women and girls</li>
