It provides examples of questions / questionnaire components and table formats for the collection and analysis of sex-disaggregated agricultural data that reflect socio-economic conditions of men and women operating in the agricultural sector. The availability of such data is critical for the planning of sustainable agricultural development in general, as well as the preparation of improved responses to specific development issues such as poverty reduction, rural development, food insecurity, HIV/AIDS prevention and mitigation, monitoring of [Pagelink infos="Millennium Development Goalss|Millennium Development Goals"] achievements and other internationally set development targets and efforts in support of gender equality and women’s empowerment. This toolkit forms part of [Pagelink infos="FAO|FAO"]’s general support to strengthening the capacity of national statistics systems in the framework of the 2010 Round of the World Programme for the Census of Agriculture and the establishment of integrated national statistics systems. It has been developed in a joint effort by the FAO Regional Office for Africa (FAORAF), Accra, Ghana and the FAO Statistics Division, Rome, Italy, based on contributions provided by numerous National Statistics Departments in Africa. <h2 id="w_focus-on-africa">Focus on Africa</h2> The 1st edition of the toolkit focuses on [Countries:Africa|Africa because] of the large number of relevant examples available from agricultural censuses implemented in this region at the time the toolkit was elaborated. A French version will be available shortly and further editions will include examples from [Countries:Central and South Asia|Asia and] [Countries:Latin America and the Caribbean|Latin America]. <h2 id="w_structure">Structure</h2> <h3 id="w_the-database-is-structured-around-nine-data-items">The Database is structured around nine data items</h3> <table border="1" width="500" cellspacing="1" cellpadding="1" align="center"> <tbody> <tr> <td rowspan="4">a) focussing on the <i>roles and responsibilities </i>of men and women in the agricultural sector</td> <td>Agricultural population and households</td> </tr> <tr> <td>Access to productive resources</td> </tr> <tr> <td>Production and productivity</td> </tr> <tr> <td>Labour and time-use</td> </tr> <tr> <td rowspan="5">b) addressing <i>development issues </i>such as food security, poverty reduction, the advancement of gender equality and empowerment of women</td> <td>Destination of agricultural produce</td> </tr> <tr> <td>Income and expenditures</td> </tr> <tr> <td>Membership of agricultural / farmer organisations</td> </tr> <tr> <td>Food security</td> </tr> <tr> <td>Poverty indicators</td> </tr> </tbody> </table> <h3 id="w_the-toolkit-consists-of-two-sections">The toolkit consists of two sections</h3> <h4 id="w_section-1">Section 1</h4> presenting examples of gender-relevant questions and questionnaire components obtained from agricultural censuses and <h4 id="w_section-2">Section 2</h4> containing examples of tables, allowing for presentation and analysis of the data collected through the questions presented in the section 1. <h2 id="w_more-information">References</h2> <ul> <li><a href="http://www.fao.org/docrep/012/k8472e/k8472e00.pdf">Brochure</a></li> <li><a href="http://www.fao.org/gender/agrigender/en">Toolkit</a></li> </ul> <h2 id="w_see-also">See also</h2> <ul> <li>[Pagelink infos="FAO|FAO"]</li> </ul>
