The Nobel Women's Initiative was established in 2006 by sister Nobel Peace Laureates [Pagelink infos="Jody Williams|Jody Williams"], [Pagelink infos="Shirin Ebadi|Shirin Ebadi"], [Pagelink infos="Wangari Maathai|Wangari Maathai"], [Pagelink infos="Rigoberta Menchú Tum|Rigoberta Menchú Tum"], [Pagelink infos="Betty Williams|Betty Williams"] and [Pagelink infos="Mairead Corrigan Maguire|Mairead Corrigan Maguire"]. These six women -- representing North and South America, Europe, the Middle East and Africa -- decided to bring together our extraordinary experiences in a united effort for peace with justice and equality.

<h2 id="w_vision">Vision</h2>
The Vision of the Nobel Women's Initiative is a world transformed, a nonviolent world of security, equality and well-being for all.
<h2 id="w_activities">Activities</h2>
United by common desire to combat all forms of violence against women in all circumstances, the Initiative also recognizes that specific issues for women vary around the world. One element of their work is to sponsor international gatherings of women every two years -- in a different region of the world -- to highlight issues of concern to women there. The objective of these meetings is to underscore commonalities and differences by providing inclusive and energizing forums that ensure meaningful dialogue and networking by women's rights activists around the world -- but with a view to action.

They are active in advocacy on: human rights issues in China; Darfur; Myanmar (Burma); and women's rights.
<h2 id="w_work-on-womens-rights">Work on women's rights</h2>
The issues of gender equity and justice for women and girls is a priority within the Nobel Women's Initiative's broad mandate to advance human rights.

As part of this, they support and stand in solidarity with women around the world who are demanding their human rights:
<ul>
	<li>Iranian women who fight for their equal political rights against a repressive regime.</li>
	<li>Burmese women who declare rape a weapon of war and call for its end. In 1991, Daw Aang San Suu Kyi was recognized for her long and vocal defense of human rights in Burma with the Nobel Peace Prize.</li>
	<li>Girls and women in Darfur who are displaced because of warfare and the world's unwillingness to act; who have been targets of sexual violence as the crisis in Darfur escalates.</li>
	<li>Girls and women in the DRC who have been targets of sexual violence.</li>
