Network of Women in Media, India
<p>The Network of Women in Media, India (NWMI), is an informal, non-hierarchical organization comprising women journalists and others working in or on the media, currently linked to autonomous local collectives of media women in about a dozen places across the country. It is an autonomous body committed to democracy and gender justice within the organization and in society.

</p><p>The basic aims and objectives of the network, evolved through discussion and debate, are:
</p><p><br />• To consolidate, support and strengthen women in media<br />• To promote media awareness / critique<br />• To promote professionalism, ethics and social responsibility in journalism<br />• To share information and resources<br />

</p><p>The NWMI was born on January 30, 2002 at the end of a three-day <a href="http://www.nwmindia.org/About_us/workshop.htm" alt="national workshop">national workshop</a> on / for Indian women in journalism held at the India International Centre, New Delhi. Approximately a hundred women journalists participated in the workshop, including approximately 60 from 16 places in 14 states.
