Medica mondiale supports women and girls having experienced sexualised violence, regardless of political, ethnic or religious affiliation. Together with women from around the world, medica mondiale is committed to helping women to lead a dignified and self-determined life. </p><p>Since its establishment in 1993, medica mondiale has been taking on the task of facing sexualised violence in war at all levels. At the same time, medica mondiale defends women’s rights at political level and draws public attention to these crimes and their destructive consequences for women and societies.<br /> </p><p>medica mondiale is actively supporting the rights of women in various projects in nine regions. There are medica mondiale therapy and women’s centres in [Pagelink infos="Gender Equality in Albania|Gender Equality in Albania"], [Pagelink infos="Gender Equality in Afghanistan|Gender Equality in Afghanistan"], [Pagelink infos="Gender Equality in Bosnia and Herzegovina|Gender Equality in Bosnia and Herzegovina"], Kosovo and [Pagelink infos="Gender Equality in Liberia|Gender Equality in Liberia"]. These centres developed into independent women’s organisations in Bosnia, Albania and in Kosovo, which medica mondiale continue to support and advise. In countries where medica mondiale are not represented through their own project centres, they work with partner organisations based on the ground to support projects in the medical, psychosocial and legal fields. This type of project funding is mostly for a limited period of time, with average subsidies amounting to 5,000 euros. This co-operation may lead to long-term project co-operation with much larger subsidies. <br /> </p> <h2 id="w_case-study">Case Study<br /></h2> <p>Since 1999, medica Tirana has been providing support and assistance to girls and women suffering from [Pagelink infos="Domestic violence|domestic violence"] and oppression. The women’s organisation fights against the increasing impoverishment and social isolation of women in Albania and acts against the atrocious trafficking in women and forced [Pagelink infos="Prostitution|prostitution"]. The therapy and counselling centre of medica Tirana has turned into an important place to turn to for girls and women in the capital Tirana and its surroundings. Support is provided to Albanian women who have experienced various types of violence. Members of medica Tirana take care of every single woman, applying a holistic approach that combines medical care and therapeutic counselling.
