<p>Kivulini is a civil society organisation which works to improve women's rights in [Pagelink infos="Gender Equality in Tanzania|Gender Equality in Tanzania"]. Kivulini advocates for women’s and girl ’s rights in Tanzania by emphasising the prevention of [Pagelink infos="Violence against women|domestic abuse"] against women and girls. </p><p>The Kiswahili word Kivulini means “in the shade”. Kivulini’s mission seeks to achieve this vision by facilitating and enabling social, economical, and legal environment which guarantees women and girls the right to live in violence-free communities through self empowerment, advocacy and building an active social movement for change. </p> <h2 id="w_objectives">Objectives<br /></h2> <p>Kivulini is committed to facilitate an enabling social, economical, and legal environment which guarantees women and girls the right to live in violence-free communities through self empowerment, advocacy and building an active social movement for change. </p><p>To build momentum for the prevention of Violence Against Women and girls with emphasis on domestic violence against women and girls in the Lake Victoria Regions (Mwanza, Kagera, Mara and Shinyanga) and Singida by: </p> <ol><li>Mobilizing communities to take action against [Pagelink infos="Domestic violence|domestic violence"] </li><li>Strengthening the capacities of local government and CSOs (including Kivulini) </li><li>Advocating and influencing key local and national policies that empower and benefit women and girls. </li></ol> <h2 id="w_programmes">Programmes<br /></h2> <ul><li><b>Community Mobilisation</b> </li></ul> <p>The Specific objective of this Programme is to develop and strengthen the capacities of community members to understand the impact of domestic violence against women and girls and act locally towards its prevention in Ilemela and Nyamagana districts through awareness raising, media and community participation. </p> <ul><li><b>Capacity Building</b> </li></ul> <p>The specific objective of this program is to increase the institutional capacities of 9 CSOs (including Kivulini) to effectively implement prevention programs on violence against women and girls with emphasise on domestic violence in the Lake Region and Singida through various trainings. <br /> </p> <ul><li><b>Policy Advocacy</b> </li></ul> <p>The specific objective of this program is to advocate and lobby for better laws, polices and structural reforms to prevent Violence Against Women with special focus on domestic violence against women and abuses of girls through capacity building, media and campaigns in Ilemela and Nyamagana districts. <br /> </p> <h2 id="w_references">References<br /></h2> <ul><li><a href="http://kivulinitz.org/" alt="http://www.kivulini.org">http://www.kivulini.org</a> <br /> </li></ul> <p> </p>
