It was produced jointly by the "World, the "FAO (FAO) of the "United, and the "International (IFAD), drawing from the operations of these three agencies. It was released on October 8, 2008. The Gender in Agriculture Sourcebook describes the very often great practical consequences for the respective potentials of women and men as agricultural producers. The experiences chronicled capture a rich blend of hopeful innovations and cautionary lessons about the importance of avoiding the pitfalls of "gender-neutral" operations in areas in which gender issues are a salient variable in agricultural production – namely in the large majority of rural settings in low-income countries where agriculture remains a major engine of economic growth. Other lessons emerge from projects in middle income developing countries.

Structure of the Book

The Sourcebook covers 16 modules including:

Food Security

Policy and Governance

Rural Finance

Land Policy and Administration

Agricultural Markets

Agricultural Water Management

Agricultural Innovation and Education

Agricultural Labor

Rural Infrastructure

Natural Resource Management

Disaster and Post-Conflict Management

Crop Agriculture

Fisheries and Aquaculture

Livestock

Forestry

Monitoring and Evaluation.

More than 100 authors and reviewers contributed to the production of the sourcebook, which continues after the print release of the publication.
