About

The Gender and Trade Initiative (GATI)Retrieved from the Gender and Trade website, on 15 September 2010: Gender and Trade Website was started in 1994 by the Society for Conflict Analysis and Resolution (SOFCAR), an advocacy group from New Delhi, "Gender . The initiative aims to bring to light gender issues in the area of trade for the reason that the component of gender and its impacts have often been left out analysis on trade. The initiative claims that gender historically hasn’t been studied alongside trade, because it was thought of as “gender neutral”. GATI is trying to raise awareness against this assumption and present data that shows a correlation between gender and trade.

Objectives

The process of GATI contains three steps.

Conduct research and collect data that show a correlation between gender and trade

Use this data to influence trade policy

Make the data available in order to raise awareness of gender’s impact on trade

GATI also runs seminars, workshops and gives consultations to raise awareness. Although, its initial focus began in South Asia, GATI now networks globally reaching both International Governmental Organizations and "Non. Through these networks, GATI is trying to “mainstream” gender issues in trade negotiations and disputes.

Partners

GATI was began by SOFCAR with the help and support of "United South Asia Regional Office. The Commonwealth Secretariat is also a partner.
