100 years since the ratification of the 19th amendment to the Constitution

"The right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of sex. Congress shall have power to enforce this article by appropriate legislation."
August 26, 2020 marks the centennial anniversary of women's right to vote - a milestone event towards greater gender equality. The 19th amendment allowed women to vote in the 1920th presidential election. To celebrate the 100th anniversary, the Brookings Institution launches a project called Brookings 19A, which provides expert analysis on the accomplishments of the amendment, and broader examination of persistent gender-based discrimination and inequalities today. Furthermore, the 2020 Women's Vote Centennial Initiative (WVCI) serves as a central entity to share information on celebrations including programs, projects, and activities organized by museums, institutions, non-profit organizations, and volunteer groups across the US. To receive an overview of events happening throughout the year, visit the WVCI Centennial Calendar 2020.
