<p>Doris Leuthard (born 10 April 1963) is a "Gender politician and lawyer. Since 1 August 2006, she has been a member of the Swiss Federal Council, the executive authority of the Swiss Government. She is the fifth woman to be elected to the Swiss Federal Council since 1984.<br />
</p> <h2 id="w_political-career">Political Career<br /></h2> <p>From 1999 – 2006, Doris Leuthard was a member of the National Council and president of the Christian Democratic People’s Party from 2004-6. During her time in the National Council, she was a member of the following committees: legal affairs, political institutions, judicial affairs and economic affairs and taxation.<br /> </p><p>She was elected to the Swiss Federal Council on 1 August 2006, and is responsible for the Doha Round negotiations of the "World. She is the Head of the Federal Department of Economic Affairs (FDEA). As part of this role, Leuthard is also responsible for labour, professional education, technology and innovation. A main objective is to establish a favourable environment for creating jobs by flexible labour market conditions. Another policy priority is to ease access to the labour market for young people, women and older workers. </p><p>Furthermore, the Federal Office for Agriculture and the Federal Veterinary Office are part of the FDEA.
