As we recently celebrated International Women’s Day and Beijing+20 at the 59th session of the Commission on the Status of Women, where do we stand today on progress made with regards to the implementation of the Beijing Platform for Action? Signed in 1995, the Platform is a historic roadmap and to date it remains the most comprehensive roadmap for action for women’s rights. The Commission on the Status of Women that took place from 9-20 March in New York was an opportunity for leaders to formulate concrete actions to step up their efforts, and accelerate gender equality and women’s empowerment worldwide. This [Special_Focus#Special_Focus_-_current|Special Focus] focuses on media news articles and blogs related to the topic. See also the OECD Development Centre’s recently published papers: “Living up to Beijing’s vision of gender equality: Social norms and transformative change” and “Can social media effectively include women’s voices in decision-making processes?“.
