Gender Equality and Web 2.0

How are both women and men represented on the Web? How can Web 2.0 innovations help advance gender equality goals? Are women given the same access as men in all countries to the Internet, web 2.0 technologies and its benefits? What are some of the examples of ways in which web 2.0 innovations can lift women out of poverty or discriminatory attitudes? What are some of the existing online networks of women and what are their impact, especially in light of some of the recent anti-government upheavals? How can women best utilise web 2.0 to reduce discrimination against them and improve their daily lives? What is the impact of web 2.0 on education for both boys and girls?

As part of the Programme, 4 students from the Paris-based Institut d’Etudes Politiques have attempted to answer some of these questions through a series of articles written for the month of January 2011.
