Births attended by skilled staff
Definition
Births attended by skilled health staff are the percentage of deliveries attended by personnel trained to give the necessary supervision, care, and advice to women during pregnancy, labor, and the postpartum period; to conduct deliveries on their own; and to care for newborns.
Attended births and progress
There is much room for progress in growing the percentage of skilled attendants at birth, as it is shown in a new report by UNICEF which states that there are two million preventable maternal deaths, stillbirths and newborn deaths each year.UNICEF. (2010, June 4). UNICEF.org. Consulté le October 29, 2010, sur UNICEF Press Centre: http://www.unicef.org/media/media_53814.html
