Policy Dialogue on Women’s Economic Empowerment
Recognising, reducing and redistributing Unpaid care and domestic work
When: Friday 17 March 2017: 10.00 am – 12.00 pm
Where: One UN Hote, 1 United Nations Plaza, New York
In partnership with the Government of Paraguay, the OECD Development Cluster is hosting a consultation with governments and development partners to set the groundwork for a new Policy Dialogue on Women’s Economic Empowerment, with a specific focus on the implementation of Target 5.4 of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) on unpaid care and domestic work. In recognition of the knowledge, policy and data gaps in this area, this Policy Dialogue will leverage expertise and learning from developing countries’ and partners’ experiences, working in an inclusive and participatory partnership to produce practical policy guidelines on “what works” to achieve women’s economic empowerment and well-being in low- and middle-income countries.
Government representatives and partner organizations will be invited to learn more about the Policy Dialogue over a 2 hour interactive exchange. The Consultation will be an opportunity for an inclusive exchange with government representatives and development partners, to ensure an inclusive and participatory process and to collectively discuss on how the Policy Dialogue can best respond to key challenges to women’s economic empowerment in developing countries.
The event will be co-chaired by Ana Maria Baiardi, Minister for Women, Government of Paraguay.
Speakers include:
- Luiza Carvalho, Regional Director, UN Women Latin America and the Caribbean;
- Anne Lammila, Ambassador for Global Women’s Issues and Gender Equality, Government of Finland; and
- Sonomi Tanaka, Technical Advisor on Gender Equity, Asian Development Bank
The event will be moderated by Elizabeth Ford, Deputy Editor of the Guardian’s Global Development pages.
