Special Focus – Women at the peace table
September 2015 marks the 15th Anniversary of the UN Security Council Resolution (SCR) 1325 on Women, Peace and Security, which prompted significant attention to the experience of women during armed conflict. Yet women’s participation and protection is still not consistently ensured in many conflict-affected or post-conflict regions of the world. All women, including from grassroots levels, should be able to fully participate in all decision-making and a new report by the International Peace Institute shows evidence that peace agreements are more likely to last if women fully participate in such consultations. Also, through a petition, a recent campaign #peaceisloud is asking the White House to meet its commitments by including women’s voices in matters of international peace and security, including at the next Countering Violent Extremism Summit. See our [Special_Focus#Special_Focus_-_current|selection of media articles] on the topic.
